What is FIRST Robotics?

FIRST inspires young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.  FIRST programs are offered at several levels, from FIRST Lego League in primary school through the FIRST Robotics Competition in secondary school.

Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. High-school student participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have.” It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get.

How does FIRST benefit students?

FIRST is a powerful program, whose main goal is to increase the understanding of science and technology in students of all ages, and help students develop both technical and non-technical life skills. By participating in any of the FIRST programs (Jr. FLL, FLL, FTC, or FRC), students grow up learning many important, applicable skills that can be used in the real world. Beyond their academic accomplishments, participation in a FIRST program benefit students in numerous ways. FIRST...

 1. Creates space for students to explore, fail and think

 2. Gives students opportunities to find their passion and gain skills for success

 3. Inspires students to make advocacy part of their daily lives

 4. Mentors students to become problem solvers who change the world
