The Split International School is officially recognized by both the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education (MZO) and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). We are fully compliant with all applicable Croatian laws and IB regulations. As defined in our school statute, we are registered as an International School implementing an IB-based curriculum in the Split court registry.
The Split International School takes the legal form of a Croatian educational non-profit organization (ustanova), under the name Aspalathos Međunarodna Škola, to maintain compliance with Croatian laws that require non-profit organizations be named in the Croatian language. All of our school's legal documents, IB correspondence, and our official school stamp reflect this Croatian version of our name. Our school was founded by the Split International Group, which is a legal entity created for the sole purpose of bringing our school's educational vision into reality and supporting its operations.
Aspalathos is the name of a yellow flower native to the Dalmatian coast, after which the early Greek settlers named their settlement in the area during the 6th century BC. The story goes that upon their arrival, the settlers found the nearby hills covered with the yellow-orchid like blooms, which inspired the name of their new town. Later, when the Romans conquered the region, the name Aspalathos was adapted to Spalatum before eventually becoming Split over the centuries. Given that the city of Split finds its historical beginnings in Aspalathos, we felt that the name would be fitting for the founding of our school. Similar to the early Greeks, we ourselves are inspired by Split's rich wealth of natural beauty where the sea, the sky, and the land meet.
We are a school founded by teachers and parents for the benefit of our students. In addition to our school board and our educational committee, our school's governance structure also relies on a formal parents' board who are actively involved in the operations of the school. The parents' board is responsible for helping organize school and community events, coordinating our parental volunteers for activities, and assisting parents in providing feedback on our academic and enrichment programs. Additionally, our parent's board appoints a member of our school board, who supports the operations of our school and communication with families.
As part of Split International School's parental transparency promise, we have made a number of our school's official documents publicly available on our website so all of our community members and prospective families can conveniently access them.
